AARC is thrilled to announce that 2025 marks the launch of state advocacy efforts for the Respiratory Care Interstate Compact (RCIC). This groundbreaking initiative, developed in collaboration with the Council of State Governments and the Department of Defense, aims to streamline licensure for respiratory therapists across participating states, enhancing patient care and workforce mobility.

Each state will play a critical role by identifying a legislative sponsor and advocating for the RCIC legislation. Leading the charge is Washington State, which has proudly become the first to introduce RCIC legislation. This is particularly meaningful, as Carl Hinkson championed the initiative during his term as AARC President.

Hinkson shared his enthusiasm, stating, “The introduction of RCIC legislation in Washington State is a significant milestone for our profession. It reflects years of hard work and collaboration to improve access to care and support our respiratory therapy workforce.”

AARC is calling on its state affiliates to take action. Affiliates are encouraged to email Miriam O’Day, AARC Senior Vice President of Government Affairs, to schedule a brief strategy session and learn how to bring this initiative to their states.

Together, we can make this vision a reality and advance respiratory care nationwide.
